Do not build your brand

As a writer, I am often encouraged to do things that will make me more popular and profitable. As a born-again believer, I am not in this for fame or money. My brand is not to be built by me. I should strive to glorify my Savior, Jesus.

In Acts 4:23-31, Peter and John have just been released by the Sanhedrin, who were the ones who took their teacher to Pontius Pilate and forced him to crucify Christ. It had to be done for all of humanity to be redeemed from our sin. That does not mean that these Jews are forgiven for their hate.

You and I do things often for our own benefit or because we want things to go our way. This never makes it correct. God knows that we will do what we will do. That is part of who He is. Omniscient is the word that we use to describe that He knows everything.

The question is often asked, “If there is a God and He loves us. Why do all these bad things happen to good people?” President Bill Clinton said that it depends on your definition of ‘is’. What does that mean? The I Am is the name of the Hebrew God. Some say Jehovah and others Yahweh. Either way, it means “I am that I am” or is He?

Is He God or not? Did He create the world or not? Is Jesus His son or not? Why does He not come down here and show Himself so that we have no doubts that He is who He said He was? He did that.

A man named Jesus was born around two thousand years ago. Like all humans, He lived a life, did His chosen profession, and died. He was nothing special. The gospels and other New Testament books were created by some demented men who just wanted to give churches a way to take money from the ignorant and unsuspecting masses.

Do you believe that? I don’t. I do not have enough faith to believe that this universe was an accident. To me, it takes more belief than I can conjure up to believe that nothing existed, then it exploded, and our planet’s existence was a fluke. The order we see around us, the laws of physics that we have ascertained, are all coincidental, and this can be proven by these same scientific principles, which were violated by the beginning of all that we experience.

I wonder who the ones are that are really confused. If matter and energy cannot be destroyed, where did they come from in the first place? My book, “Cosmic Flatulence,” is my attempt to explain the Big Bang Theory and how science can be understood.

No cloud of gas appeared from nothingness. The I Am has always existed. Jehovah was not created by man; that is what makes Him the creator. He has always been here, and if you believe that a cloud of gas came from nothing and exploded to form our universe, I guess Yahweh let a fart.

I am here to tell His story, to proclaim the day of the Lord so that you will understand. I am not here to build myself or my brand. I’m just telling you the truth and letting you decide for yourself whether Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life, as He said He was.

Do not try to persuade others to agree with you, buy your line, and support your brand. Follow The Way, believe The Truth, and enjoy The Life which is as eternal as He is. I do not know how to explain it any better than He did. If God never existed until we made Him up, how did all of this get here?

God

Over fifty years ago, I had a problem with the church I attended. My problem was not with Yahweh. The people in this body of believers had fired another pastor. I was tired of them. I was not sure that I could believe anything that they had taught me for the previous ten years or so.

I asked Jehovah, the I Am, to reveal himself to me. He did, and He led me back to that congregation through the new pastor they called. Then I was called to full-time ministry and became a workplace minister. When I married my wife, I joined the church she was at.

Jesus has proceeded to show me that He is the Son of God and who He, the Father, and Holy Spirit truly are. We refer to them as a triune being, just as we are made of three different parts. This is what Moses meant in Genesis when he wrote that God made mankind in their own image.

I do not understand why I was never told this in any of the church classes I had growing up or any of the Bible classes I took in college. We were told that this was a trinity and not a triune being. As a writer, I am amazed that some of these ThDs did not take enough English classes to learn the difference between these two words.

It is more understandable that many pastors and evangelists, without even a bachelor’s degree, will argue with me when I try to correct their misuse. It’s like knowing proper English makes me a heretic. I am reminded of the Catholic Church officials who tried to excommunicate Galileo and others for showing that the Earth orbited the sun and not the other way.

God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, or, for the non-theologian like me, all-powerful, all-present, and all-knowing. He did create everything in the universe, and before that miracle, nothing existed except the triune God. I do not have enough faith to believe in the Big Bang or any other theories that believe an accident caused the entire universe.

For me, I must acknowledge that Jehovah created the universe, including our and other occupied planets, by His intentional action. The books of the Bible include stories that confirm many aspects of this creation and development here and in near and far space.

Criticizing myself or Christian scientists by calling us ignorant and unscientific simply affects me as the kid on the playground did when he called me a sissy. I have grown up, but I am not so sure of the detractors who refuse to acknowledge scientific theory when it comes to the beginning.

I believe in one triune God and that He told Moses His name was I Am. I believe He sent His Son to teach and die for us. I also believe that their spirit has been sent as our comforter and educator. This is the God I believe in. Believe in your own or believe in none; that is your business.

Belief

We have gone through the Christmas season and celebrated the birth of the Savior of the world. We call Him Jesus. Do you know who this historical figure is? I am a writer. A craftsman who uses words to create meaning for you. I am a wordsmith.

Just as a blacksmith creates tools, knives, or horseshoes from black iron or steel, I make phrases and sentences that convey ideas to you. Either you agree with these two thoughts, or you refuse to accept them. I don’t mind if you don’t consider me an author. That hurts neither you nor me.

When you do not accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, it separates you from God. Why should I care? That is between you and your creator, whether you know it or not. I care because God cares.

This is what I believe. I know this is the truth. Acknowledge it or deny it. That is your freewill. He gave it to you just as He gave you life. He is not the one who is lying to you. We have an adversary that does not want us to recognize these facts.

Jehovah created the universe. That includes our world and all the objects we see in the sky. Today, we know some are planets. stars, or wandering bodies. I do not know if there is life on any other planet. We are too far from them to discern that. We’ve tried with the ones closest to us, and nothing is there.

When They created all of this, we human beings were created. Men and women are made different from other creatures. We are in Their image or likeness. This is where my craftsmanship comes to bear. I need to explain what this means.

God the Father, God the Son, and Holy Spirit are called a trinity. That word originally meant three divine beings that make up a godhead. A supreme ruling force in our universe. That is incorrect. They are a triune being. Do you see the difference in the words? Trinity combines three separate things into one.

Triune takes one and expresses it as three separate forms. Do you understand this? Let me put it this way. Take an egg. Just an ordinary chicken egg. Open the shell, and you have a yellow thing called a yoke, the shell you just broke, and the white or albumen. Those are three individual things with their own names and purposes. Get it? The shell protects the developing chick. The yoke becomes the chick. The egg white feeds the creature as it grows.

Three things, one individual being. That is us as well. Three things that are one person. Does it make sense to you? It does to me. You have a body. You are not a body. You also have a soul and a spirit that reside inside of you. If you have accepted Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord, your spirit is alive. If not, it is dead.

I will continue this more in-depth in future columns. I think this is enough for you to take in now. Please ask me questions in the comments, and I will answer them specifically in the next articles. Thank you for reading what I believe.

What is in a name?

William Shakespeare wrote in “Romeo and Juliet”, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.” We do not know where the name Rose came from. I do know where my mother took the name Charles for me. It came from a character in the soap opera “As The World Turns.”

That is what she told me all my life. While researching this column I discovered that this TV show appeared after I was born. Another myth is busted. Now I am wondering where my name came from. An old boyfriend? Charlie Tuna? 1961 was his debut. Charles De Gaulle? I hope not. One of his middle names is Marie. Prince Charles? That would be cool since he is now Charles III king of Great Britain. He was just a kid when I was born.

Names are very important. Mom called where I worked and asked for Charles. She was told that no one by that name worked there. The guy who said that was a new hire and did not know that Chuck is a nickname for Charles. She read him the riot act.  She once told our pastor that my name was not Chuck. She had given me the name Charles.

I adopted the name Chuck in college. I thought Chuck Kensinger reporting from London would sound better. I use Chuck for all my friends and for my fiction. All my non-fiction is under my given name. When we meet, call me Chuck.

God had a problem with Moses when he first called him to lead the Israelites from Egypt. He asked who he should say sent him. Jehovah or Yahweh is translated as “I am that I am.” In Hebrew, it literally means “I am, I was, and I will always be.” Pretty specific, right.

He has other names given in the Bible as well. Jehovah Jirah, El Shaddai, Jesus Christ, and many others. Don’t worry, He will answer no matter what you call Him because He knows when you are talking to Him. I start my prayers with precious Jesus. It works for me.

The important thing is to talk to Him whenever you want to. I think He listens to everyone. That’s kind of His thing. Give Him a call. Don’t forget to listen with your spirit. That is how He communicates with us. If you’ve accepted His son Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you will have a better connection. Try Him, you’ll like Him.
